How a Reston Bathroom Remodel Works, Step by Step

Every Bathroom Brigade project follows the same five steps. Here is what each one involves and what we will need from you along the way, including the extra coordination a Reston condo or townhouse can require.

  1. 01

    Consult

Review goals, pain points, budget priorities, and the existing bathroom. You show us the room and tell us what bothers you; we look at plumbing, ventilation, access and any association rules that apply.

  2. 02

    Design

Develop the layout plan, fixture plan, material direction, and project scope. You review the written scope and ask questions; we flag which permits the work needs.

  3. 03

    Select

Finalize tile, vanity, countertop, fixtures, and finishes. You make decisions so materials are ready before demolition, not mid-project.

  4. 04

    Build

Complete demolition, rough-ins, installations, and finish work. You keep access clear and, in a condo, keep the association informed; we schedule inspections.

  5. 05

    Complete

Review final details, address closeout items, and turn over the finished space. You walk the room with us and note anything that needs attention.

Before the consult

A few things help us give you a useful first visit: photos of the bathroom, a list of what you want to change, and, if you live in a condo or a townhouse cluster, a copy of your association's rules for contractors and renovations.

During design: permits and approvals

Reston is in unincorporated Fairfax County, so permits come from Fairfax County Land Development Services. Interior work alone does not usually involve Reston Association, but anything that changes the outside of the home, like a new vent cap, can. We sort out which approvals apply before the schedule is set.

During selection: decide early

The most common cause of a stalled bathroom is a missing part. Choosing tile, vanity, fixtures and glass before demolition means the crew is not waiting on a backordered faucet with your shower torn out.

During the build

Demolition comes first, then rough plumbing and electrical, inspections where required, waterproofing, tile, and finish installation. Frameless glass is usually measured after the tile is done, so it is one of the last pieces in.

At completion

We walk the bathroom with you, go through any closeout items and hand over the finished room.
